Provincial Team Programs

BC TALENT SQUAD (BCTS)

The BC Talent Squad Program is a talent identification program that has been established for the purpose of recruiting and supporting promising athletes from club programs throughout BC.  The program is designed for athletes between 13 and 16 years of age, and is a "feeder" program to the BC Development Squad Program.

The objectives of this program are:

  • To recruit talented individuals based on considerations in addition to results, such as commitment, and opportunity.
  • To motivate and train young elite athletes entering the high performance system through the provision of educational and technique development opportunities in a peer group, inter-club training environment.
  • To expose developing athletes to the BC Development Squad BC Ski Team programs.

BC DEVELOPMENT SQUAD (BCDS) 

The BC Development Squad is comprised of developing cross country ski athletes just below the level of the BC Ski Team. This program is designed for athletes 15 to 18 years of age and is a "feeder" program to the BC Ski Team.

The objectives of this program are:

  • To prepare elite athletes, through the provision of appropriate educational and technique developing opportunities, for the BC Ski Team.
  • To promote long term involvement with competitive skiing.
  • To promote an attitude of fair play.

BC SKI TEAM (BCST)

The BC Ski Team is comprised of elite cross country ski athletes of British Columbia.  This includes National Ski Team, National Development Squad and National Junior Team athletes.  The program is designed for athletes that have the skill, ability and interest in pursuing a career at the National or International level.  This is the premier cross country ski team in this province.

The objectives of this program are:

  • To prepare elite athletes, through the provision of appropriate education and technique development opportunities, for National Development Centre (NDC) programs.
  • To provide appropriate information on sport science, sport medicine, technique, ski preparation etc. and then help the athlete to utilize it.
  • To develop independent athletes that can make knowledgeable and responsible training decisions for themselves.
  • To promote a long term involvement with competitive skiing.
  • To promote an attitude of fair play.
