Callaghan Valley Training Centre Bursaries
Two bursaries of $4000 each will be offered annually to junior BC athletes attending the Callaghan Valley Training Centre. One bursary will recognize Gary Murdoch’s contribution to cross country skiing (female athlete) and the other will recognize Dave Battison’s contribution to cross country skiing (male athlete).
The intent of this initiative is to both encourage post-secondary athletes who aspire to international excellence to pursue the high performance stream and recognize coaches who have made a significant contribution to high performance cross country skiing in British Columbia. Selection criteria will be posted this fall. The new program will come into effect for the 2015-16 ski season.
Gary Murdoch (Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club, Smithers) was a club founder and Jackrabbit coach who later established a junior racing program and coached his club/team to be the top ranked club at the National Junior Championships in 1993, 1994 and 1995. For more information click here.
Dave Battison (Strathcona Nordic Ski Club, Mt. Washington) had a long and successful coaching career including his role as head coach of the successful Strathcona junior racing team.
