CCBC PARA-NORDICS SET TO SURPASS PREVIOUS CANADA WINTER GAMES MEDAL HAUL

In 2011, CCBC’s Para-Nordic Team brought back 6 medals from Canada Winter Games Halifax.  This time BC (Prince George) plays host to the rest of the country and your Para-Nordic Team expects to surpass Halifax’s medal total.

At this past weekend’s CWG Para-Nordic Qualification Races, a small but determined group of skiers served notice that BC is the team to beat.  With veteran female sit skier Emily Suchy (Revelstoke Nordics) and standing male skier Andy Lin (Nordic Racers Ski Club) gold medallists at the last two Ski Nationals, the BC Team has two strong leaders.  The team is rounded out by two relative newcomers, Ethan Hess (male sit skier; Spud Valley/Nordic Racers) and Emily Weekes (female standing skier; Hollyburn XC/Nordic Racers), who impressed many, including National Team Coach Robin McKeever, at last month’s National Para-Nordic Development Camp.

Filling out the team will be another newcomer, Lindsey McDonald (female standing skier; Nordic Racers), and a BC Winter Games veteran, Sam Piercey (male sit skier; Nordic Racers).

With six strong competitive skiers in four categories, could the 2015 BC Para-Nordic Team surpass the 2011 Team’s medal count?  Be sure to tune into GlobalTV or to viaSports streaming video to catch the action!

Many thanks to Phil Youwe and the Sun Peaks staff for hosting the CWG Para-Nordic Qualification Races on short notice.
