BC Winter Games Update on Status of Snow Sports »

Hello BC Winter Games Zone Reps, Coaches and Officials,

I know that everyone is wondering what our contingency plan will be for the BC Winter Games due to the low snow levels at Hallis Lake and if we’ll be going ahead.  Cross Country BC will attend the Games regardless of snow conditions.  Biathlon BC will also be attending.  We are exploring modified scenarios for competition.   We are actively working with the Quesnel community and have some great options that we’re working on.   More to come on that within the next week as I’m sure everyone is curious and needs to know what to expect and what to pack.

Unfortunately, our friends at BC Alpine Ski, Freestyle BC and BC Snowboard have had to withdraw from the Games.  These mountain-based sports require a significant snowpack that simply isn’t available this year to run a safe and meaningful competition in this community.  We are disappointed that they aren’t able to join us this time.

This year was to be the first that Special Olympics would be joining Cross Country Skiing for the BC Winter Games.  They too, given the circumstances, have made the difficult decision to withdraw.   We look forward to working with them again when we begin our preparations for the 2026 BC Winter Games in Rossland/Trail.

More info to come early next week!

The BC Games Society will be releasing a statement in the next few minutes.

Kindest regards,
