                          4 Para-Nordic athletes (2 male and 2 female)

Selection Criteria (Able-Bodied)

1.    Senior National Team athletes, athletes who have held SR1 or SR2 cards (as defined by Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program) at any time, and athletes who have previously competed at the following events: Senior World Championships, Olympic Games, or World Cups (domestic World Cups not included) are not eligible.

2.    A maximum of 5 male and 5 female athletes will be selected.

3.    Athletes must be 20 years of age and under (born in 1999 or later) with the exception of a maximum of one athlete per gender who may be 23 years of age and under (born 1996 to 1998 inclusive) provided they (the athletes born 1996 to 1998) qualify according to the other selection criteria.

4.    Athletes who qualify for the 2019 FIS World Junior Championships or 2019 FIS World U23 Championships will automatically be selected unless more athletes qualify for these events than there are positions available on the Canada Winter Games team - for example, if more than one male athlete qualifies for the 2019 FIS World U23 Championships.  In a case where too many athletes qualify  there will be a ski-off to break the tie between these athletes at the Canada Winter Games Trials in Prince George.  The ski-off will compare the athletes involved using criteria 6.1.1 and 6.1.2.

5.    The Athlete Development Committee will select up to 80% of the remaining Canada Games Team based on criteria #6.

6.    The following Trial races will be used:

       Men - BC Cup #1, Prince George, Dec. 29, 2018 (FT Sprint  1200 m)
Men - BC Cup #1, Prince George, Dec. 30, 2018 (CT Interval Start  10 km)

       Women – BC Cup #1, Prince George, Dec. 29, 2018 (FT Sprint   1200 m)
Women - BC Cup #1, Prince George, Dec. 30, 2018 (CT Interval Start   7.5 km)

6.1   Athletes will be selected using the following:

6.1.1   The top eligible athlete in each Trial race will receive 100 points. Athletes will then be ranked based on their percentage of time off the leader.

6.1.2   For sprint races the finish times from both the Qualification Round and the Heats will be used.

7.    The remaining 20% will be filled in at the discretion of the Athlete Development Committee, and may include “force majeure”, CPL points, past performance, results from early season races, etc.

8.    The selection committee reserves the right to decide the balance between sprint and distance athletes in the interest of fielding the best overall team. This consideration includes starting the strongest possible team for sprint, distance and relay events.

9.    If for any reason the Trial races in Prince George are cancelled, the Athlete Development Committee will use this same criteria and apply it to day 1 (December 13, 2018) and day 2 (December 15, 2018) of the World Junior/U23 Championship Trials in Canmore, AB to select a team.

10.  All athletes must be in financial good standing with CCBC.

Selection Criteria (Para-Nordic)

2.    All athletes must be classified in order to compete in the Canada Games.

3.    2 male and 2 female athletes will be selected.  One athlete per gender will be selected from the ‘Standing’ category and one from the ‘Sitting’ category provided there are eligible athletes to fill each of these positions.

5.   The Trial races will offer two categories: Sitting (sit-skiing class) and Standing (visually impaired and standing classes - a combined category).

5.1    In the Sitting category, results will be determined by applying percentage formulas (as per WPNS rules) specific to the athletes’ disability classes.

5.2    In the Standing category, visually impaired athletes will be compared to standing athletes to determine final race results in both male and female events by applying percentage formulas (as per WPNS rules) correlating standing skiers’ performances with visually impaired skiers’ performances.

6.  Force majeure may be considered in special circumstances.
