2021 - 22 Club Membership Contest »

The results are in ... and they are INCREDIBLE!!

First off, THANK YOU for all your work and leadership in building healthier communities, especially during these times.  Our sport continues to grow and grow!

Some overall highlights:

  • Despite generally later snow this year, total club membership in BC continues to trend ahead of last year!  (Last year saw a ~50% increase over the prior year, so it’s no small feat to be ahead of last year!)
  • Many of our clubs have already surpassed their previous winter’s total!
  • 6 clubs have already broken their all-time membership record, and many more are well on their way!
  • More than 2,500 kids are already enrolled in the Kal Tire Skill Development Program, on track to smash the previous record.  More kids than ever before are learning the skills to enjoy our “sport for life”!  Kudos to the hundreds and hundreds of volunteer coaches across BC that are making this possible!

A HUGE THANK YOU to the Membership Contest sponsors for their support:

Each of the above readily stepped up to support this initiative and they’ve been fantastic to work with.  To see what they’re contributing, read below.

And finally, the results:

This year we have 4 first-time winners, and 2 repeat winners.  (In the past 6 years, we’ve now had a total of 25 different winning clubs.)

  • Group A:  Telemark for the win, fending off Overlander on the homestretch, with both clubs setting new all-time membership records!  Sovereign and Caledonia solid in 3rdand 4th.
  • Group B:  Bulkley Valley overtakes Nelson in the final week!  Nice work by Revy to go from last to 3rd in the final days, in a very close race for all.
  • Group C:  Hollyburn hangs on for the victory, with Strathcona in 2nd.  Huge final effort by Snow Valley, not far back in 3rd!  All 3 clubs have already set new all-time membership records!
  • Group D:  Incredible effort by Williams Lake, passing the entire field in the final week!  Impressive work by Whiskey Jack, 100 Mile, and Omineca on the homestretch in a very tight race.
  • Group E:  Morice Mountain surges to the front on the homestretch, smashing their all-time record!  Vancouver Skiers and Sea to Sky are next, already ahead of last year.
  • Group F:  Dakota Ridge hangs on for the narrowest of victories, a toe in front of Fort Nelson!  Clinton in 3rd, with all 3 ahead of last year already.

Here’s the data for clubs that have already achieved 75% of last winter’s total membership.  Current membership is also shown for reference.

Prizes can be used by clubs as they see fit:  to raffle off, for a family in need, to use as a volunteer draw prize, for a kids program, for an Early-Bird prize … your choice!

To win, a club has to have the highest percentage of members registered*, as of midnight Dec 1 2021, as compared to its previous winter’s total membership.   For example, a club with 200 members last year and 140 members by Dec 1 would be at 70%, and a club with 160 members last year and 120 members by Dec 1 would be at 75%.

To make things fair as well as have more winners, clubs have been divided into 6 groups and a winner will be selected from each group, for a total of 6 winners.  The prizes will be randomly distributed amongst the winners.  The groups, along with last winter’s club membership totals, are shown below.

As a recap from last season, almost all clubs had record memberships.  Amazing!  What is possible this year?

Fingers crossed for early snow!
