BC TALENT (BCTS) SQUAD

The program is designed for athletes in the "Training to Train" stage of the Canadian Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, and is a "feeder" program to the BC Development Squad.

Eligibility Requirements:

1.    Results from the BC Track Attack Championships, BC Winter Games, BC Cup Series and/or recommendation from club head coaches.

2.    Boys: born in 2009, 2008 or 2007.

3.    Girls: born in 2009, 2008 or 2007.

4.    A minimum of two weekends of competition in the following events - BC Track Attack Championship, BC Winter Games, BC Cups or BC Championship events (2021-22 ski season).

5.    A commitment to improving their skills.

6.    A sufficient physical fitness level for participation in Talent Squad activities.

The squad size will be a maximum of 40 athletes.

BC DEVELOPMENT SQUAD (BCDS)

BCDS members will be selected based primarily on their ski season performances at BC Cup competitions and the National Championships.

Selection Policy:

1.    The CCBC Athlete Development (AD) Committee will determine the BCDS nominations for 2022-23 based on the Selection Criteria.

2.    The BCDS will be selected before April 15th each year.

3.    BCDS Membership will be for one year.

4.    BCDS membership will not guarantee selection for any inter-provincial or national competitions.

5.    The AD Committee will consider "force majeure" in special circumstances provided the request is received no later than March 27th, 2022.  Further to this, the Committee can make discretionary selections provided the athletes meet criteria #2 and #3 below.

Selection Criteria:

1.    The size of the BCDS will be a maximum of 26 members.

2.    BCDS membership will be restricted to athletes who were resident in BC, held a BC/NC racing licence, and were members of a CCBC club during the 2021-22 ski year.

3.    BCDS membership will be restricted to athletes born in 2007, 2006 and 2005.

4.    The BCDS will include a minimum of ten male and ten female athletes.

5.    Medal winners (top 3 placings) in the individual events and top three aggregate winners (according to year of birth) at the 2022 National Championships, who do not meet the BCST minimum age criteria, will automatically be selected to the BCDS.

6.    The remainder of the BCDS will be selected based on an athletes best six results (according to year of birth) in the 2022 BC Cup/BC Championships and the following National Championship individual races – Individual Sprint (CT), Interval Start (CT), Interval Start (FT), and Mass Start (FT). Athletes must attend a minimum of two BC Cup/BC Championships weekends in order to qualify for this criteria. 

7.    The AD Committee may use the final 2021-22 Canada Points List to compare athletes in different classes (gender, year of birth) by calculating the percentage the athletes are off the national leaders of their class.

BC SKI TEAM (BCST)

Team members will be selected on the basis of their ski season performances at provincial, national and international competitions.

Selection Policy:

1.    Based on the criteria, the AD Committee will determine the team nominations for 2022-23.

2.    The BCST will be selected before April 15th each year.

3.    Team membership will be for one year.

4.    Team membership will not guarantee selection for any inter-provincial or international competition.

5.    The final 2021-22 Canada Points List (CPL) will be used to determine selections.

6.    The AD Committee will consider "force majeure" in special circumstances provided the request is received no later than March 27th, 2022.  Further to this, the Committee can make discretionary selections provided the athletes meet criteria #1 and #5.

Selection Criteria:

1.    Team membership will be restricted to athletes who:

       -  were resident in and competed in BC, held a BC/NC racing licence, and were members of a CCBC club during the 2021-22 ski year; or

       -  were a permanent resident of BC that is temporarily residing out-of-province for educational purposes or to take part in the National Ski Team (NST) or National Development Centre (NDC) programs; held a BC/NC racing licence, and were members of a CCBC club during the 2021-22 ski year; and

       -  will be coached by an NCCP Comp Dev coach (cross country skiing) in training (or higher).

2.    Team size will be restricted to NST (criteria #3) and a maximum of 24 additional athletes.

3.    National Ski Team (NST) members for the 2021-22 ski year will automatically be selected.

4.    National Championship age category medal winners (top 3 placings) and top three YOB aggregate award winners in 2022 (U16 B/G if born in 2006, U18 B/G, U20 M/W, U23 M/W) will be automatically selected provided they meet criteria #5 & #6.

5.    Team membership will be restricted to athletes born in 2006 or earlier.

6.    Athletes born in 1999 (past the maximum age for competing in the 2023 U23 World Championships) or earlier require special approval of the AD Committee in order to continue on the BCST Program, with the exception of NST athletes who will be accepted, as per criteria #1.

7.    To fill additional positions on the BCST, two thirds will be selected based on the 2021/22 CPL Distance List and one third will be based on the 2021-22 CPL Sprint List.  An athlete will be selected based on their relative national ranking, according to gender, in their year of birth. The AD Committee will compare athletes in different classes (gender, year of birth) by calculating the percentage the athlete is off the national leaders of the class using the CPL.

BC PARA-NORDIC SQUAD

Selection Policy:

1.    Based on the criteria, the AD Committee will determine the team nominations for 2022-23.

2.    Squad membership will be for one year.

3.    Squad membership will not guarantee selection for any inter-provincial or international competition.

4.    The AD Committee will consider "force majeure" in special circumstances.

Eligibility Requirements:

1.    Recommendation from club head coaches.

2.    Born 1987 to 2009 inclusive.

3.    A continued commitment to the pursuit of their competitive goals.

4.    A commitment to skill improvement.

5.    A sufficient physical fitness level for participation in PN Squad activities.

The squad size will be a maximum of eight athletes.
 

BC PARA-NORDIC TEAM

Selection Policy:

1.    Based on the criteria, the AD Committee will determine the team nominations for 2022-23.

2.    Team membership will be for one year.

3.   Team membership will not guarantee selection for any inter-provincial or international competition.

4.    The AD Committee will consider "force majeure" in special circumstances.

Eligibility Requirements:

1.    Recommendation from club head coaches.

2.    Born 1987-2008 inclusive.

3.    A continued commitment to the pursuit of their high performance goals.

4.    A commitment to a minimum of 350 sport-specific training hours during the 2022-23 ski season.

5.    A commitment to skill improvement.

6.    A sufficient physical fitness level for participation in PN Team activities.

The team size will be a maximum of six athletes not including those in the PN NST program.
