The six steps/workshops now available in the new competency-based NCCP are:
Introduction to Community Coaching (ICC) Workshop (10 hrs). This program is directed at coaches working with novice skiers and specifically children under six years of age (Active Start stage of athlete development). Workshops should be be held prior to the snow season and can be scheduled anytime between now and next winter.
Community Coaching (CC) Workshop (16 hrs). This program is directed at coaches working with children six to nine years of age (FUNdamentals stage of athlete development). Snow is required so workshops need to be scheduled after the beginning of next winter.
Learning to Train - (L2T - Dryland) Workshop (16 hrs). This program is directed at coaches working with children ten to twelve years of age (Learning to Train stage of athlete development). Courses should be held priorto the snow season and can be scheduled anytime between now and next winter.
Learning to Train - (L2T On-snow) Workshop (16 hours). This program is also directed at coaches working with children ten to twelve years of age. Snow is required, and workshops should be scheduled after the beginning of next winter.
Training to Train - (T2T - Dryland) Workshop (17.5 hrs). This program provides essential training for coaches working with junior racing programs, and specifically with athletes 12 to 16 years of age (Training to Train stage of athlete development). Courses should be held prior to the snow season and can be scheduled aytime after October 15th, 2009.
Training to Train - (T2T On-snow) Workshop (17 hours). This program is also directed at coaches working with children twelve to sixteen years of age. Snow is required, and workshops should be scheduled after the beginning of winter, 2009.
NOTES:
New coaches must begin their training by taking the Introduction to Community Coach (ICC) Workshop for cross-country skiing! Note that this is a sport-specific workshop, and should not be confused with the generic ICC (theory) courses advertised by the Coaching Assoc. of BC.
